Letters of Casper C. Branner [manuscript], 1860-1864.

In three letters from Mossy Creek Academy to his family in New Market, Va., 1860-1861, Branner discusses cattle purchases, a ride to Staunton, Va., 1860 presidential election results,a military review in Harrisonburg, Va., secessionist sentiment and the Virginia secession convention, his examinations and chemistry class experiments. An 1864 letter from "Frankling" discusses the weather, spring ploughing, government agents searching for provisions and forage, dedication of Southern soldiers, and expectation of heavy fighting soon.
